Mocha Gelato Affogato Recipe

Did you see my yummy post a few days ago where I shared a barista-style homemade coffee drink made from International Delight Iced Coffee?  Well today I have a cool coffee dessert recipe to share with you: mocha gelato affogato.  It’s delicious and would be the perfect ending at a summer dinner party.  And it sounds kinda fun and fancy, doesn’t it?

To make this dessert, I went to Walmart and bought International Delight Iced Coffee {mocha flavor}.  I brought it home and poured it into my ice cream maker {I used the Iced Coffee by itself but I think it would also be really good if it was mixed with a flavored coffee creamer}.  I have a really old school turn-the-handle ice cream maker so I cranked that handle ’round and ’round till I got the consistency I wanted.

The frozen coffee ended up with the texture of a gelato.

To turn the dessert into an affogato {which, in Italian, means “drowned”}, I poured hot espresso over the mocha gelato.

It obviously melts quickly, making it tricky to get a great photo, but it was so good!  The combination of rich, robust espresso over the slightly sweet mocha gelato is delightful.

If you’re serving this dessert for guests, I would recommend giving everyone a bowl of gelato and a tiny cup of espresso and allow them to pour the desired amount of coffee over their gelato.  It’s a light palate pleasing dessert!

I have never heard of this but I am sure coffee ice cream-ish desserts are pretty popular! Great job!
