With the kids home from school during the summer, I’m always looking for fun ways to entertain my younger children.  They love to craft and love to use their imaginations so making sock puppets was the perfect idea for a craft for kids!  And instead of gathering up piles of supplies, I want to show you how to make easy sock puppets!

Instead of gathering up socks and pom poms and all the various craft supplies, we used Sock Friends Puppets kits from Darice.  The kits contain everything needed to make a sock puppet {including adhesive materials} and the kits are available in all different themes.

My three younger kids all chose a different kit and we got to work.  The kits are recommended for kids ages six and above and that’s very accurate.  I had to help my four-year-old make her puppet since it was a bit too tough for her to figure out on her own.

My eight-year-old twins got to work by themselves {there are no instructions, just a picture to use as a guide} and while they found the first kit a bit tricky at times, they had it mastered by the time they opened up a second kit.

The puppet pieces are all adhesive or can be attached with small adhesive squares included in the package.

I was impressed with how well the adhesive holds.  Once stuck in place, we haven’t had any problem with pieces falling off.

The completed puppets were colorful and whimsical …

… and my kids have had the best time putting on puppet shows for the family {the doorway theater is another kit by Darice}.  Nightly shows have become part of our summer routine and we’ve all had lots of giggles as scripts have been written and shows have been performed.  I love seeing my kids’ imaginations flourish!

Sock Friends Puppets are available at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Centers, Michaels, Meijer, and other independent retailers.  {Selection may vary by store.}
