This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of KRAFT Natural Shredded Cheese and Safeway. All opinions are 100% mine. #StandUpCheese

My mouth is watering just thinking about this recipe!  This gourmet grilled cheese with bacon and caramelized onions is the grown-up version of the standard grilled cheese sandwich … but the kids will love it too!  The flavors are bold and rich and it’s sure to become a new go-to lunch meal {or even a light dinner}!

To make this gourmet grilled cheese sandwich, you’ll need KRAFT Triple Cheddar Cheese {I used my Safeway Just For You card to buy KRAFT Cheese in the new Stand-Up Pouches}, an onion, bacon, butter, and whole grain bread.

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium heat and saute 1/4 cup of diced onions until they’re brown.  Remove the onions from the pan and cook three or four bacon slices until crisp.

Layer the ingredients in your sandwich: sprinkle a handful of grated cheese, cover it with the caramelized onions, lay the cooked bacon across …

… and sprinkle on more KRAFT Cheese.  Having the cheese on both sides of the filling will hold everything in the sandwich when the cheese melts.

You can spread the bread with butter or melt more butter in the pan like I do, then cook both sides of the sandwich on medium-low heat until the bread is light brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.

Cut the sandwich in half and serve … and be prepared for your taste buds to go wild!  The flavor combination is delicious!

First of all, you are welcome in my house anytime. I mean it – coming up with something incredible like this. My family would probably go bonkers over the fact that I actually cooked bacon, but this is a great looking sandwich!

Oh my goodness. Talk about a delicious grilled cheese! This is one I would have to eat by myself and keep the kids away from. haha!
