I recently saw a photo from Lego headquarters that showcased a really cool Lego wall. I thought it would be super easy to recreate that idea on a much smaller scale in Luke’s room, giving him a place to build without cluttering up the floor. Since Luke already has a Lego table in his room, I made this Lego wall on a closet wall to keep it out of the way and corral some of the mess.
This was such an easy project. The hardest part was spelling out his name with mini Lego pieces {wink}!
I used eight 32×32 green base plates and one 16×32 base plate and glued them to a wall inside Luke’s closet, using a glue gun. {It’s held up really well but if you’re worried about longevity, E6000 or liquid nails would also be great choices. I liked the idea of using a glue gun because I can heat it with a blowdryer and easily pull it down.}
I didn’t try any fancy configurations with the base plates, figuring it would be best to just lay the base plates side by side, providing lots of room for building.
I added small Lego pieces on a smaller centered base plate at the top to create Luke’s name, just adding a fun little personalized touch. If you want the name to remain in place permanently, I would suggest gluing those pieces down. Otherwise, I’m sure little hands will remove them at some point.
Luke thinks his new Lego wall is awesome and he was building away as soon as it went up.
I hope this will just encourage more creative, imaginative play!

That is very cool. I love his name built on the top. Great idea.

Did you glue the name at the top? I love it! My daughter is only one, but I’m going to start saving Lego’s ’cause you can never have too many.:) I’m a new follower from CRAFT.:)

Love this. Thinking about doing a whole wall like this and the opposite wall in blackboard paint. With 9 kids to raise, they should have something fun to play with!

How did you fasten the baseplates to the wall? Is it still holding up well?
Randi~Dukes and Duchesses says
This is probably crazy but I just used a hot glue gun. The plates get a lot of tugging and pulling and they’ve never come loose. E6000 would probably also work well.

Have you tested removing with the blow dryer? I’m dying to try this but we live in a rental so I don’t want to really damage the walls!
Randi Dukes says
I use hot glue to hang a lot of different things on the walls {like party backdrops, etc}, and I’ve always been able to remove the hot glue. It will sometimes remove the top layer of paint though so I probably wouldn’t do this unless you have some touch up paint.

What if you attached the plates to masonite and attached that to the wall for easier removal.

Great idea!

Yes it is

How is it now? We are doing it but adding a wall partition on the actual wall so when it is time to move it it will come off without destroying the wall.
Then gluing it to the partitions. We have over 60,000 legos and we need storage.

It’s great. It’s held up well over the years but I was also able to pull a piece off and replace it without any wall damage.

Hey dear….
Great idea…great minds at work out there..Have been thinking of building something like this as my son starts to get interested in LEGO a bit at 2 yrs Do you think its a good age to build something like that or he has a far way to go? Also,as I stay in a rented apartment,I don’t wish to ruin the walls…I read in your posts that you use glue gun & they dnt move but if you need to take them all out ,does it peel off the wall?
Appreciate your guidance.
Randi Dukes says
I think it would be great even for a little one … you could always do it with the large lego pieces if you wanted. The glue gun has the potential to strip some of the wall away. You could loosen it by using a hairdryer on it … that would probably stop it from peeling off some of the wall but I can’t guarantee it.

That lego wall idea is really cool! Great use of wall space as well as excess legos lying around the house! A very creative way to get kids on board a good project too.
