Layered Tropical Slush

Because it’s so hot in Texas in the summer, we drink a lot of cold drinks.  And I love to whip up fun concoctions for the kids as a special treat.  This layered tropical slush is a twist on the koolaid slush I’ve shared before but it combines two complementary flavors and got two thumbs up from the kids!  Make it exactly as the recipe suggests or blend up your own combinations for a delicious and refreshing summer treat!

layered tropical slush

To make a layered tropical slush, you’ll need

1 envelope of tropical fruit powdered kool-aid mix

1/2 cup sugar

2 cups cold water

4 cups ice

2 cups pineapple juice

layered tropical slush

In a blender, mix the kool-aid powder, sugar, 2 cups of water, and 2 cups of ice until completely slushy.  Add additional ice if needed to give it the right consistency.

Pour the mixture into glasses, filling halfway.

Rinse the blender then mix the pineapple juice and 2 cups of ice until slushy.  Again, add additional ice if needed.

Slowly pour the pineapple mixture over the kool-aid mixture.  It will settle on top of the kool-aid slush.

… and garnish as desired {or not at all}.  I love to add a sprig of mint to almost everything because my mint garden is out of control during the summer months!

This kids will love this fun layered drink and the blend of flavors is delicious.  It’s the perfect way to cool off on those hot, humid days!
