How to Make Pom Pom Flip Flops

It’s flip flop season and I have a really cute idea that can be whipped up in very little time: pom pom flip flops!  The next time the kids tell you they’re bored, get out the yarn and scissors and a cheap pair of flip flops and let them make this colorful craft!

To make a pair of pom pom flip flops, you’ll need colorful yarn {any type will work}, a cheap pair of flip flops, and a pom pom maker.  If you don’t have a pom pom maker, you can also use the fork method.  Google to find a simple tutorial if you’re not sure what I’m talking about.

Make a pile of pom poms.  This pair of flip flops required a total of eighteen pom poms to fill the entire strap on each one but the number you’ll need will depend on the size of your flips flops and the size of the pom poms.

You can mix a bunch of colors together like I did or stick with a monochromatic color scheme.  Either option will look super cute.

When tying off the center of the pom poms, leave tails on the middle string.

Use those long strings to tie the pom poms onto the flip flop straps.  Tie a tight double knot on each one then add a dab of glue to the knot so it won’t slip out.  Cut off the remaining length.  Tie pom poms along the entire length of the strap on each flip flop.

Once the pom poms are all tied on, the puffy flip flops are ready to wear.  They’re so cute!  In our house, we’re counting on the bright-colored pom poms to hide the dirty toenails that come from playing outside all summer {wink}.  Dirty kids are happy kids, right?

Maybe this week we’ll do a pedicure that matches the flips flops.  And until then, my kiddos will just keep enjoying the carefree days of summer!
