How to Make Bath Paint

To jazz up toddler bath time a bit, I made homemade bath paint for Luke and Lila. They had great fun painting the sides of the tub and, unlike store-bought bath paints we’ve used, these paints washed away easily when bath time was over.

To make your own colorful homemade bath paint, stir together 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 2 tablespoons liquid soap or tearless shampoo {the tearless shampoo is recommended for young kids that will touch their face while painting} for each color.

I placed one batch of solution in each cup of a muffin tin and then used a few drops of food coloring {drops, gel, or paste all work equally well} to create different colors.  Simply stir the coloring into the cornstarch mixture, adding drops until you get the desired color.

That’s all there is to it!  You’re ready to let the kids finger paint on the side of the tub.  It is wise to test the paint on your bathtub surface to make sure it won’t stain.  And I do recommend encouraging the kids to avoid getting the paint on grout lines since that tends to stain a bit more easily.

When the kids have finished painting, spray down the sides of the tub and rinse their hands to get rid of any soap residue.

Homemade bath paint is such a great way to add a little bit of creativity and fun to bath time … or a great way to pass the time on a rainy afternoon!
