Hand Knit Chunky Coasters

I love to knit, especially during the fall and winter months.  Curling up in front of the TV, needles clicking, is one of my favorite ways to pass the evening hours.  And I love easy knitting projects that can be completed in one sitting.  These hand knit chunky coasters are a super easy project and a set can be completed, from start to finish, in less than an hour.  Sounds like a great way to spend an evening, doesn’t it?

To make these chunky knit coasters, you’ll need thick, chunky yarn in any color you want {use a yarn that can handle being thrown in the washing machine}, large knitting needles, and a plastic needle to sew in loose ends when finished.  For this pattern, gauge obviously doesn’t matter at all but you’ll just want to ensure that the yarn and needles are compatible to create even stitching that’s not too loose and not too tight.

Cast on seven stitches and knit in garter stitch for seven or eight rows or until you have a fairly even square.  Using the plastic tapestry needle, weave the loose ends in to the back of the coaster.

Knit at least four to create a set of coasters … or knit more if you often entertain a crowd.

… and they’d make a great hostess gift.  Simply stack four coasters together and tie them up with a ribbon or piece of tulle for a simple gift.

These are such cute coasters, but I would be afraid to use them for anything but water! Love your owl mugs too. I hope you will share it with us at The Crafty Corner link party this week. 🙂
