Grapevine Wine Tours

I was provided with a complimentary wine tour in order to tell you all about it.  All opinions are my own.

One thing about living in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is that there are always fun things to do. This week I had the chance to go on a Grapevine Wine Tours outing with a group of local bloggers and it was fabulous!

My Mom and I went on a lunch wine tour in the fall and I loved that.  The dinner tour this week was equally impressive and fun.

Homestead Winery

We boarded the bus, along with a professional tour guide, at a local Grapevine hotel and set off for the first stop on our four-hour tour: Homestead Winery tasting room situated in a charming 1890’s Victorian house off historic Main Street in Grapevine.

Homestead Winery is the oldest continually operating winery in the Red River Valley of North Texas.  We were given a brief overview of each wine and had the opportunity to sample any or all of them.  It was really fun sampling the different wines and tasting the overtones in each.  My favorite? Probably the Bois D’Arc although I did love the peppery flavor of the Zinfandel.

Delaney Vineyards

When we had all had all the samples we wanted, we re-boarded the bus and drove to Delaney Vineyards, a gorgeous vineyard located in the heart of Grapevine, Texas.

While the main vineyard is in Lamesa, Texas, the Grapevine vineyard grows ten acres of Cynthiana grapes, the best southern-bred hybrid vine to grow in the metroplex.  It thrives in the hard clay and does well with high heat and humidity.

We wandered beside the vineyards, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and catching a peek at the vines full of plump grapes.  The vineyard is gorgeous.

We had a brief tour of the facility, including the vats and the bottling area …

… then sat down in a gorgeous room and sampled their wines.  I loved the ambiance of Delaney Vineyards and plan to go back for one of their weekly Rhythm and Wine evenings {and possibly convince one of my daughters to get married at the vineyard … smile}.

Winewood Grill

The final stop of our wine tour was Winewood Grill, located in the historical district of Grapevine, Texas.

Winewood serves contemporary American cuisine in a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired setting.  We enjoyed a delicious dinner and a final bit of wine sampling.  It was the perfect, relaxing end to our tour.

The evening was wonderful and if you live in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, I would highly recommend a wine tour for a girl’s outing, a corporate event, or just some special time with friends or family.

I stayed in Grapevine this weekend while I was in town, but didn’t have any time for exploring or tours. I keep saying I want to return for a girls weekend and tour some of the wineries and explore the area a little more! I’ll add this winery to my to visit list!

I’ve been dreaming about a vineyard tour for ages. I don’t drink alcohol but my husband loves Zinfandel and I’m sure both of us would enjoy a little getaway like that, with or without alcohol involved.
