I hear it’s football season {wink} and while I may not be the biggest fan of watching the sport, I do love a good tailgate party!  And I’m always a fan of themed food, no matter what the occasion.  This football tailgate chocolate bark is not only delicious but it looks festive too … which makes it the perfect treat for a tailgate party, sports-themed birthday party, or just a treat to indulge on during a Sunday afternoon football fest!

If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen the story I shared when I spotted these packages of football candy corn at a local store.  Maybe these are old news for some but I had never seen them before and couldn’t resist using them to make a little treat.

Wouldn’t they also make super cute cupcake toppers?

In addition to the football candy corn, to make football tailgate chocolate bark, you’ll also need a package of semi-sweet chocolate chips, a package of white chocolate chips, and various toppings in white, green, gold, and brown.  Small candies, mini marshmallows, and colored sprinkles all make great toppings for candy bark.

ingredients for football tailgate bark

Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper.

Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave on medium heat {not high}, stirring every thirty seconds until fully melted then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate on the parchment paper.

Set aside 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips and then melt the rest, using the same method used to melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the regular chocolate and use a spatula to gently spread it out, creating a marbled effect.

While the chocolate is still soft, add toppings.  You can sprinkle them over the chocolate but I like to be a bit more methodical about it, laying the pieces out.  I always start with the largest candy first and then tuck the other candies in between.

Add sprinkles as desired then melt the remaining 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips, pour the melted chocolate into a small plastic sandwich bag, snip a tiny corner off, and pipe the threads onto the chocolate bark.

If that step feels too tedious, skip it, but it really does add a fun finishing touch.

Let the chocolate solidify completely {you can place it in the fridge to speed up the process} …

… then serve by breaking off pieces.
