This Kindle Fire review was written for Staples. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This fall, we’re entering a year of firsts. My baby is going to kindergarten! I’ve been through it four other times {and cried each time} but this time might be tugging on my heartstrings in a different way. This is the last time I’ll send a little one off to her first day of kindergarten. And the year will be filled with firsts for Tate: her first day of school, her first teacher, her first soccer game, likely her first lost tooth, her first school friend, and so many other distinct moments that will shape her.
She’ll read and write and draw and learn … and we’ll be helping her with all of these firsts at home as well. Our new Kindle Fire HD will also be helping with all of Tate’s firsts.
We decided that the Kindle Fire will be a kid-friendly gadget in our home. We’ll skip any links to social media, block the internet, and we’ll fill it with educational books and apps. The parental controls on the Kindle Fire make that so easy! I entered a password then altered the settings to provide a safe and age-appropriate learning environment for my three younger kids.
And to mark which tablet is theirs, I used my cutting machine to add some fun vinyl to the back. I’m hoping the words might inspire them a little. At a minimum, it’ll help them quickly identify their device.
I downloaded a number of songs, books, games, and educational apps and my kiddos have been looking forward to their “electronics time” every day!
Tate doesn’t have a summer reading list yet but I’ve given her a Mom-version of the summer reading list to get her on a solid learning track for kindergarten.
In addition to books, my kids like educational apps. Want to see what my kids love playing on the Kindle Fire? Here’s a list of some of our favorite games and apps for kids.

I’m looking forward to seeing all the things that Tate will learn this year as she experiences all her firsts!
What firsts do you enjoy the most?
