A Family Room Makeover #BHGRefresh

This family room makeover is part of a sponsored post for BHG Live Better.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My family room just got a fabulous makeover with bright and colorful pieces from the Better Homes and Gardens Live Better line at Walmart!

family room makeover

Our family room is one of the most frequented spots in our home.  With five kids ranging from four to sixteen, this room has to be family-friendly, comfortable, and practical.  I want it to look good and showcase my eclectic style but it’s equally important that it’s an inviting spot where we can spend time together and connect as a family.

The main piece in our family room is a large dark brown leather sectional.  While it might not be the trendiest piece, I love it because it means our big ol’ family can all sit down together.  Because the couch is so dark, I like to add bright accessories to liven up the room.  Prior to my family room makeover, this room had a large bland coffee table, a few DIY drop cloth pillows, and not much else.

With only $250 of stylish, affordable products from the BHG Live Better line at Walmart, this room now feels vibrant and fresh just in time for summer!  The pops of orange {my favorite color} just make me smile every time I walk in the room.

This room looks so pulled together now, has a clean look, and feels warm and inviting.

family room after

I added two large patterned fabric poufs that can be moved for different seating arrangements and used as seats or as foot rests.  My kids absolutely love them and someone is always perched on them when we’re hanging out in the room.  I love the simple but bold pattern.

I switched out our old square, yellowish-wood coffee table for a smaller rectangular industrial-style table.  I love the mixed materials and the casters and I’m completely enjoying a smaller table that allows more room for walking.  I had to keep my cabinet tray, of course, and it looks great on top of the new table!

This space is functional and fun, all in one.

I decided to ditch my homemade pillows {that had puppy-chewed corners} and chose four new toss cushions in orange and neutral tones.  The pillows are simple but the geometrical patterns add a fun punch to the solid, dark couch.

The final change took place on my mantel.  The mantel is often an eclectic mix of things I love and gets updated seasonally {and even got updated again this week} but I did add some new candlesticks to the mix.  The candlesticks were originally a dark color but I gave them a few coats of orange and turquoise spray paint to tie some color in to that side of the room.

Our family room is now such a fun, bright spot in our home and a place where we all want to gather!
