Embellished Dropcloth Pillows

Ever since we got our gigantic couch, I’ve been wanting to make some cute toss cushions for it.  Something to cover the not-so-cute toss pillows that came with it and add some more color and fun to the room.  I even started a Pinterest board of inspiration.

And it took me over a year to finally get it done.  How crazy is that?

I did add a few pillows during that time, but the other ones still sat there in all their unslipcovered badness.

Until last week when I finally moved it to the top of the sewing list and got it done.  And I love them!

I used a paint dropcloth {I love dropcloths: they’re inexpensive and have a neat linen/burlap look to them} and sewed envelope style pillows {so they can be popped off and thrown in the wash}, then embellished them.

This pillow was inspired by this.  I taped some fabric onto a piece of paper and ran it through a printer to get the orange text.  I frayed the edges just a bit, then ironed craft fuse on the back so it wouldn’t continue to fray.  A little orange stitching around the edge and it was finished.

The other two pillows were painted, using paint pens and a freezer paper stencil.

I love the pop of color and the personality that the new pillows add and I’m so stinkin’ happy to have the nasty manufactured pillows covered up!

{Curious about other accessories in this room?  You can read more about the gallery wall, the painted cabinet tray, and the knit lampshade by clicking on these links.}

    Great idea! I’ve seen so many drop cloth crafts but I’ve never picked any up. I really should try it out!

    Those pillows look great. My house still looks a bit like we’re in University. Everything sort of matches but doesn’t. I forgot you have a leather couch. Do you like it?
