We’re in the dog days of summer and my dog has been panting like crazy with our hundred plus degree temperatures here in north Texas.  I decided a cool treat might hit the spot and I was right.  My little pup went crazy over these homemade carrot and beef dog popsicles!  The good news is these popsicles take just minutes to make and only a few hours to freeze meaning my little dog will enjoy cool treats all summer long!

dog popsicles

To make a batch of homemade dog popsicles, in a bowl mix together a 4.25 ounce jar of pureed carrot baby food and one cup of beef broth.  Stir until well combined.

{As with any recipe for your pet, check with your vet before introducing any food into your pet’s diet.}

Pour the beef and carrot mixture into an ice cube tray .  This quantity will fill one twelve-cube tray so if you want to make a larger batch, double or triple the recipe.  And if you want something a little cuter than a block, freeze the mixture in a shaped or themed ice cube tray.  These paw and dog bone shaped trays would make really fun popsicles!

Freeze until the cubes are completely solid.

Pop the cubes out one at a time and serve to your dog!  I make my dog eat them outside because she’s not exactly tidy and likes to carry them around.  Look at that tongue enjoying the cool treat!  {I’d share a full face photo but Molly’s been doing a little too much swimming this summer and she’s a disaster in need of grooming!}

Store the leftover dog popsicles in the freezer … you can simply leave them right in the ice cube tray as you would with regular ice cubes and cover with plastic wrap if desired.  Your pup will love this cold summer treat and I guarantee he/she will be back begging for more!

    I need to do this for my dog. He’s a bulldog & they need to be kept cool in the heat. Pinned for later. Thanks for the how to!

      We used to have a bulldog! LOVE them. And yes, they’re SO heat intolerant. These would definitely help!

    Oh, these will be perfect for my dog! The poor boy has been hating the heat lately.

    Thanks for sharing. We have an almost 6 month old Lab/Dane mix who needs lots of things to keep him busy! We’ve been giving him marrow bone treats, plain ice, and frozen banana chunks outside – will have to add these to the list!!

    This is such a great idea! I know that my dog would love to have these when we come back from a walk or hike. It’s so hot out. It’d be great to have an extra way to cool him down.

    This is a great idea. I have a Great Pyrenees who gets very warm. I keep ice cubes for him, but have never thought about flavoured popsicles.

    Thanks for sharing.
