Summer feels long gone now that the kids are back in school and our days are filled once again with homework, sports, and the increased pace of life during the school year. I can’t help thinking that the start of school also means that cold and flu season {and allergy season in Texas} are right around the corner. I dread that time of year and I’m already preparing for stuffy noses and congested heads with these DIY vapor shower melts … and I’m keeping the number of our local close by.
I’ve got five kids and while they’re all very healthy, we still end up with colds, the occasional flu bug, and sports-related injuries. When we can’t get in to see our regular pediatrician, are the place we go to for sudden injuries and after-hour illnesses. We have a center close by our house and I love that we can put our name on the waiting list via and wait at home until we’re called. It makes a visit to CareNow so much easier and far less stressful. I hate waiting in a room full of other sick people {especially during flu season!} and love that CareNow is dedicated to reducing your wait while improving your health.
offers quality medical care and can perform x-rays and lab tests, diagnose and treat illnesses, administer immunizations, and even perform school sports physicals.
We visited CareNow a couple of months ago when we thought one of my daughters broke her foot and we were just back again when my middle daughter injured her wrist during a soccer practice. It’s so hard to see kids sick or injured but having a place we can trust for quality medical care makes those situations much easier. I’m hoping we’ll slide through flu season unaffected, but I know where we’ll go if we don’t end up that lucky.
In addition to getting quality medical care when it’s needed, I also have a few at-home tricks for making the kids more comfortable when they’re struggling with colds or allergies. Vapor shower melts are soothing, clear up stuffy noses, and bring a lot of comfort. They’re so easy to make and you can keep them in the cabinet until they’re needed.
To make vapor shower melts, you’ll need 1 cup of cornstarch, 4 tablespoons of vapor rub, and 6 tablespoons of cold water.
Using a fork, blend the ingredients together until everything is well combined into a thick pasty mixture.
Press the mixture into silicon mini muffin tins or ice cube trays and place them in the fridge for a couple of hours.
Pop them out carefully and store them in an airtight container in the cupboard or fridge until you’re ready to use them.
These shower melts smell so good and bring quick relief to stuffy heads!

What do you do with these shower melts?
Randi Dukes says
I didn’t make that super clear, did I? You put them in the bottom of the tub or shower and they’ll melt under the water and steam, providing a vapor that helps clear up the sinus passages.

Randi,
These are a great idea! I will definitely have to try them for my son who has sinus problems. Thanks for sharing!
