This phone docking station post has been sponsored by Verizon.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Do you get tired of phones lying around and cords hanging everywhere?  In our device-driven world, I’m always looking for ways to hide charging cords and provide an organized solution for phones and tablets.  Today I’m sharing a fun idea for a DIY upcycled phone docking station along with some great information about an upcoming workshop that will help you get the most out of your smart phone!

How to Make a DIY Upcycled Phone Docking Station

Now let’s get creating!

My phone generally sits on my bedside table to charge at night and I’m always worried that I’ll knock it off, trip on the cord when I’m trying to get up, or knock over a glass of water and damage the phone.  I’ve been wanting to come up with a better place to charge my phone while still having it close enough that I can check the time in the middle of the night or ensure I’ll wake up if my college kids need me during the night {doesn’t every Mom worry about that late night phone call?}.

I decided to create a little docking station on the side of my bedside table and I made it out of a vintage wooden cheese box that I bought at a junk sale years ago.  I’ve used the box for different things over the years but I’ve always wanted to come up with a more permanent idea for it and it finally found its time to shine {wink}.  This upcycled idea fits perfectly with my whimsical decor.

If you don’t have a cheese box, look for some other type of upcycled container that would work.  The thrift store is always full of baskets and boxes of any size and you could use a wooden or a metal box to make this docking station.

Drill a hole in one end of the box, about half an inch in diameter, so you can pull the end of the cord through.

Drill two small pilot holes on the side of the box …

… then place the box where you want it on the side of your bedside table {or on the wall next to your bed if you’d rather not drill into furniture}, use a level to ensure it’s not sitting crooked, and use short screws to attach the box, through the pilot holes, into the bedside table.

Pull the cord through the hole in the end of the box and lay the phone inside to charge.  When the phone isn’t charging, the end of the cord can remain in the box instead of dragging on the ground.

This phone docking station is such an easy idea but it looks cute and organized and keeps phones and cords out of the way.

Wow! I really like this idea. Right now my phone lays flat on my nightstand. I always knock it off accidentally in the middle of the night, reaching for water or to check the time. I really like the idea of it having its own little place, where the wire isn’t getting in the way of anything else. Great project idea, I will have to try this!

I have mine in a basket so it’s above water level if I spill… Your cheese box is a darling idea but with it right between you r bed and the nightstand isn’t it likely to get water spilled on it? It would if it was by me… That said, I do love old wooden cheese boxes!

Love this idea and it’s a cute way to store your phone! I know what you mean about late night calls. Even though my girls are grown and have families of their own I still keep my phone near if I’m needed.
