DIY Monogrammed Coasters

I’ve been playing around with a fun tool that’s perfect for all of you that like to craft and DIY: the Dremel Micro 8050 Tool {from the Dremel line of versatile tool systems that provide the perfect solution to any craft, DIY, or hobby project}.  I’ve had so much fun testing out this tool and I’m looking forward to spending more time experimenting with all of its functions.  But before I do, let me show you my first project: DIY monogrammed coasters.

The key to this project is the Dremel Micro 8050 Tool.  The Micro 8050 is the most “brilliantly powerful” and precise cordless rotary tool that Dremel has ever produced.  It’s light and easy to handle in tight spaces and it can cut, carve, engrave, sand, grind, sharpen, clean, and polish, helping you bring your brilliant projects to life!

To make these monogrammed coasters, I started by cutting 1/4 inch thick plywood into four squares.

Using the engraving cutter accessory …

… and a small stencil placed in the center of the wood piece …

… I engraved a monogram into each square.  Don’t worry about making the monogram perfect.  Mine aren’t perfect but I think it gives them a bit of character.  The soft grip on the tool makes it easy to grasp …

… and the Micro 8050 has LED front-end lighting to illuminate projects, a feature that I love.  I also love that there’s no cord to get in the way.  The Micro 8050 uses an 8V Max Lithium-ion battery and has a docking station that continually charges.

Once I had each coaster engraved, I used a small sanding band to sand the edges.

When each piece was sanded, I painted them with a coat of chalky finish paint …

… then sanded the edges and rubbed them all with brown wax to add an aged look.

The coasters are a fun and practical touch in our home and I love having monogrammed items in our decor.

Wouldn’t they make sweet hostess gifts?  A perfect idea with the holidays coming up!

The Dremel Micro 8050 Tool can be purchased online at Amazon {affiliate link} and HomeDepot.com for $89 USD.  And, in addition to all the pieces that come with the Dremel Micro 8050, the tool is also compatible with all Dremel rotary tool accessories.  For more information on Dremel products, project ideas, and problem-solving tips, visit www.Dremel.com.

Dremel wants to celebrate its fans’ brilliant projects, work and ideas!
