DIY Industrial Plumbing Pipe Monogram

As I’ve been making over Luke’s room, I’ve been adding some fun personalized details to give it a rustic industrial look that will grow with him over the years.  This DIY industrial plumbing pipe monogram is a simple project that adds a very industrial touch above his bed.  I got lucky with the simplicity of his initial but, with a little planning, any monogram is possible.

To make an industrial plumbing pipe monogram, you’ll need galvanized plumbing pipe and fittings.  What you need will depend on the letter you’re making and it’s really easiest to lay out your letter on the floor of the hardware store to figure out exactly what you need to buy.  I made Luke’s letter out of 3/4 inch pipe and fittings but you could also use 1/2 inch sizes if you want to reduce the size {and the cost} a bit.

Where you want the monogram to attach to the wall, you’ll need floor flanges {affiliate link}.  For the letter L, I used two flanges and connected both ends.  If you’re doing a letter with more ends, like H, you could choose to attach all four ends to the wall with floor flanges or you could use floor flanges on a couple of ends and finish the other ends with caps.  For each floor flange, you’ll also need a threaded nipple and a ninety degree elbow.

For the rest of the letter, you’ll combine pipe nipples {affiliate link} in two to four inch lengths along with a galvanized coupling for each connection.  Depending on the letter you’re forming, you may also need various elbows to make curves or cross fittings.  Go through the buckets at the hardware store and piece together what you need.

Combine the pieces for the ends first.  Use the threaded nipple to join a floor flange and a ninety degree elbow.  Repeat for each end that will attach to the wall.

Using screws and anchors, level the letter and attach it to the wall, placing screws in each of the holes in the floor flanges.

This is a really simple project and doesn’t take much time to put together but it adds a fun, unique industrial flair that really personalizes a space.
