Last December, my daughter hosted a cookie decorating party for her soccer team and part of the fun involved a cookie decorating contest. I used my Cricut machine to make DIY awards and we created all kinds of funny winning categories. It was the perfect idea for a tween or teen holiday party and the girls had a great time … and lots and lots of laughs!
Hosting a cookie decorating party is simple. We invited the team over, made a big pile of shaped sugar cookies {be sure to use a sugar cookie recipe that holds its shape rather than spreading out} …
… set out lots of icing, both storebought and homemade, along with piles of sprinkles, glitter, colored sugar, and candy, and let the girls go to town.
They drank hot cocoa and decorated the cookies for the longest time.
The ravaged table was evidence of the fun {wink}. But it’s also a party that’s easy to clean up if you use a lot of disposable items. I lifted all the non-disposable items up then rolled the tablecloth up with everything else inside and had the table cleaned up in five minutes.
But, back to the awards {smile}.
Cookie Decorating Contest Award Ideas
We told the girls there would be awards but kept the categories a secret. That made the final results way more fun because no one was decorating a cookie for a certain category.
You can obviously create any categories you want but we made these awards: least icing, most icing, most festive, most unique, reddest cookie, most colorful, most sprinkles, most creative, most likely to be on pinterest, least likely to be on pinterest.
How to Make Cookie Decorating Awards
I used my Cricut machine to make the cookie decorating awards and you can click on that link to use the same customizable file.
Duplicate the pieces to create as many ribbons and circles as you need and add text to the circles to create the categories. Be sure to select a writing linetype rather than cut for the text.
Cut the awards on cardstock with Cricut pens in the machine {your Cricut machine will walk you through the steps}.
Once cut, all you have to do is glue the white circle on to the red ribbon and the cookie decorating awards are complete.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a cutting machine. You can also make these, or a similar version, by hand.
We attached each award to a box of candy but you can obviously use any prizes you want.
And don’t forget to take pictures! We took a photo of each girl with their award and the winning cookie and it’s been fun to look back at them a year later!
