Decorative Machine Stitching on a Paper Plate

I love to use paper plates for parties or to deliver treats to neighbors but I often wish they were just a bit fancier and a whole lot more unique.  You too?  Want a fun solution?  Add decorative machine stitching on a paper plate for a sweet and completely unique table setting!  And the best part?  It’s super easy!

decorative machine stitching on a disposable paper plate

Start with a regular paper plate in any style {I used square but round works equally well} and choose a thread color.  I used off-white thread on a pale pink paper plate but any combination would be fun.  Go with bold color or a monochromatic design or match your party theme.

Choose a decorative stitch on your sewing machine.  Most sewing machines, even simple models, have a scallop stitch or something similar.

Place the plate under the presser foot and stitch all the way around.  If you’re using a square plate, slowly rotate around the corner.

It takes just a couple of minutes to stitch each plate and the final result is a super cute embellished {but disposable} paper plate!

The decorative machine stitching adds a really fun touch to a plain paper plate …

… and is my new favorite go-to to fancify the simple!  Next Christmas, the neighbors will all be getting baked goods on stitched paper plates!

Randi this is a super cute and easy idea. I will definitely use it on the disposable plates I take to the church hospitality functions. One question do you have specific size needle that works best?

I just used a standard needle … the general all-purpose needle. It worked great!
