I love this vintage-looking cross-stitch monogrammed necklace I just finished making.  It was such a quirky little project but the final result is really fun.

I started with a wooden pendant {with the holes already drilled} that I bought through The Plaid Barn.

I drew a quick little sketch of my initial and filled in the background with three strands of white embroidery floss …

… then filled in the monogram with brown thread.

I left the edges bare because I like the texture and look of the wooden border.

I added a jump ring, strung it on some brown leather, and I have a fun little monogrammed pendant.

Wouldn’t a vintage-y floral design be fun?  I might have to experiment with that next.

I wondered if that was wood and it is! How cool! I’ve done a few cross-stitched pieces in my day – this is very cute! 😀

It’s lovely. A flower pendant would be beautiful too.

I love it. I went to The Plaid Barn and I couldn’t find the pendant. Could you post a link to the site please.

The Plaid Barn has different stuff all the time so these might not pop up there again for a while. However, I did an etsy search and found a number of sellers that have them. Here’s one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/90919940/35-wooden-needlepoint-cross-stitch-blank?ref=v1_other_2. Hope that helps!
