I’m busy making my Christmas list and checking it twice and trying to gift wrap as I go.  This year I don’t want to be stuck on Christmas Eve, wrapping gifts without an ounce of creativity left.  Can you relate?  I’ve stocked up on basic wrapping supplies and I have some simple and creative ways to gift wrap with ribbon.

Last week, my daughter and I went shopping for Christmas gifts at LOFT {and may have bought ourselves a few things as well}.  I fell in love with the color blocked infinity scarves and bought a few.  Multiple people on my Christmas list are getting one this year!  The hardest decision was figuring out which color combination to buy but the bold yellow won out.

I also bought a number of accessories for friends and family members.  While clothing can be a tricky gift to give, accessories are simple and always add a fun touch to an outfit.  Whether it’s a beautiful necklace, some fun socks {and LOFT has lots of them!}, or trendy sunglasses, strong accessories are a win-win.

Once home with goods in hand, I decided to get a head start on wrapping.

This year I’m wrapping with plain boxes and lots of ribbon.  Any color palette works well with this wrapping technique but I chose the gold and black look that’s so popular right now.  Buy plain white boxes and different ribbons in varying patterns and widths.  Throw in a few pretty gift tags and interesting trims {like gold link} as well.

ribbon selection for gift wrap

The first ribbon wrapping idea is simple and works really well on flat boxes.  Use a wide ribbon or trim {or even a coordinating piece of fabric} and wrap it around the box, using hot glue to secure it to the bottom.  Add a piece of ribbon around the middle and top it with something bulky and interesting like this chain link or a studded or ruffled piece of ribbon.  Secure both pieces with hot glue.

This idea is quick and easy but the look is classy and elegant, a perfect match for what’s inside.

The next gift wrap idea is just as simple.  Choose four or five coordinating ribbons in varying widths and simply wrap them around the parcel and glue them tightly in place on the bottom of the box.  You may want to dab a bit of hot glue on top as well so the ribbons remain equally spaced.

And to make it a bit fancier, try this third idea.  Start the same way, attaching four or five pieces of coordinating ribbon across the box …

… then, following the same ribbon pattern in the opposite direction, weave the pieces of ribbon through the first set of ribbons.

The final look is so classic and stylish and no one will ever know it took just minutes to wrap.

Make the outside of the gift as amazing as the inside this year with basic boxes and ribbon!

I love to wrapping ideas. I would probably try to open my gift without tearing the paper up so I could keep the wrapping.

I love how you used black and gold in your gift wrapping and the basket weave is so pretty! Also, that yellow and grey scarf is the softest EVER!

I love these wrapping ideas! I’m always so unimaginative when I wrap and using ribbon opens up so many great, beautiful options.
