Creating an Outdoor Living Space

I received compensation from BHG at Walmart for my participation in the BHG Live Better Network.  However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #BHGLiveBetter

This is the year of the yard at our house.  We’re replanting the front yard, completely altering the gardens, and creating an outdoor living space in the back yard.  Last year I didn’t host a single pool party because I just hated the lack of character in our back yard.  This year, I’m creating a comfortable outdoor living space that will have us spending a lot more time outside than in … despite the crippling Texas temperatures!

creating an outdoor living space

One of the benefits to living in Texas is that spring has already hit hard and it’s only March.  Winter actually just failed to arrive this year so we’re embracing the warm temperatures and getting an early start with our outdoor plans.

We have a large patio area next to our pool and a new table is now the star of that space.  The Better Homes and Gardens Lynnhaven Park 5-Piece Dining Set is a perfect fit for this spot.  We added an umbrella and once I paint that umbrella stand, it should look awesome {wink}.

outdoor table and eating area

The swivel chairs are so comfortable and are a great spot to sit and sip iced coffee while I watch the kids swim in the pool.

swivel chairs

I love that this set comes with accent pillows.  They add a touch of color, a splash of character, and a whole lot of comfort and style.

And the cane weave back softens the metal and adds texture and comfort.

The rubbed finish on the table is such a great look.  It mimics a wood grain but has the enduring quality of metal and will be perfect for repelling the chlorine water that splashes out of the pool.

This stacked drink dispenser will likely end up being the most used item in our house this summer!  Isn’t it fabulous?  Each square comes separately so you can stack one or ten … your choice.  The base is separate too so you can use it … or not.  It’ll be filled with some sort of iced tea or lemonade variation at every party this summer!

stacked drink dispensers

The chalkboard labels come on it and are so cute!  I’ll have to practice doing some fun chalk art.  I love the way this dispenser looks {I’m a huge fan of galvanized metal} but I also love that you can serve a variety of drinks without taking up much room on a table.

I couldn’t resist a matching galvanized caddy.  I love having one spot to stash cups, napkins, straws, or condiments.  It makes it so easy to carry things in and out of the house.

caddy for outdoor entertaining

These simple pieces have me looking forward to a summer full of playdates in the pool!  Once the canna lilies bloom in the garden behind the table and I add some festive string lights, this will be such a welcoming space for friends and family.

outdoor entertaining and outdoor living

I’m also super excited about the other outdoor living space we’ve created.  Our pool is in a fenced off area but we also have a large patio outside our back door and we tossed our old, torn up outdoor chairs and replaced them with the Better Homes and Gardens Carter Hills Outdoor Conversation Set.  This set includes a coffee table, a sofa, and two large chairs and together the pieces create a really fabulous spot.

outdoor living area

I added a couple of outdoor toss cushions to the chairs to add a little more color {I love color!} and tie the color in with the cushions that came with the set.

pillow on outdoor chair

This set is so stylish, as much from the back as the front.  The details in the steel frame really add a modern, classy look.

decorative back of outdoor chair

I added a little more color with a whimsical fox pot {a thrift store score} filled with mint to the coffee table along with a candleholder that I plan to fill with a citronella candle.

goodwill planter on outdoor table

The final fun touch in this space is an urn firepit that we plan to christen this week with an evening of s’mores.  I’m looking forward to lots of family evenings spent around this fire pit and I’m hoping my teens will use it as a spot to hang out with friends as well.

I’ve been sitting on this sofa every day, drinking my morning {and evening} coffee, working on my laptop, and just enjoying the sounds of spring.

I’m so excited to have these refreshed outdoor spaces and look forward to having our backyard filled with people all summer long!
