My tween daughter loves all things art-related and can often be found sketching away in her room.  The alone time, the drawing, and the chance to be creative just fills something inside her.  I love giving gifts that encourage that passion but it’s sometimes hard to figure out what to give … especially because I like adding a little handmade touch to the gifts.  This year I’m combining her love of color with her love of Sharpies {it’s a genetic thing, I’m sure … we always have a mason jar full of Sharpies within arm’s reach} and markers and giving her a coloring page pencil case full of colorful writing tools!  When she’s tired of her own sketches, she can color and doodle on the case!

I bought the Sharpie Permanent Markers Limited Edition Gift Pack along with a Mr. Sketch Scented Combo Gift Pack.  I won’t lie, I kind of wanted to grab an extra set of each for myself.  I can still remember the smell of an orange scented marker from my childhood!  I love that these gift packs are bright, bold, and full of possibilities.

While these items are available both in-store and online at Target, I couldn’t find them at my local Target store so I bought them online and had them shipped to the store.  It was the first time I’ve used the ship to store feature but it definitely won’t be the last.  I loved the ease!  You simply order as you would order any item online but select a store for pick-up.  The next day I walked in, got my item at customer service, and was done.  It made shopping a breeze!  It combined the convenience of online shopping, the ability to know something’s available, and the speed of in-store purchase since it eliminates a standard shipping time.  I grabbed a screenshot yesterday to show you how easy it is.  {And now is a great time to shop for these items!  From 12/3 to 12/23, you can save $10 and get these gift packs plus other doodling and drawing gift sets for only $19.99!}

You can take advantage of online shopping too by hovering over the image below to find the items at Target.com.

These gift packs both make such great holiday gifts!

The Sharpie Permanent Markers Limited Edition Gift Pack is full of regular sized Sharpie markers, fine point Sharpies, and Sharpie pens in a wide variety of vibrant colors!  It even includes some metallic colors.

And the Mr. Sketch Scented Combo Pack is just as full of fun.  It not only includes a variety of markers but it includes twistable crayons too!  I see a little mother-daughter coloring time in my future {wink}.

To add a unique way to gift these sets, I thought it would be fun to combine them in a DIY coloring page pencil case.  This is a really simple project even if you don’t consider yourself overly artistic or creative.

I bought a canvas pencil case with a zipper closure and used a black Sharpie to create the design.  You can freehand the design, print a design online to trace, or use one of the coloring pages that’s included in the Sharpie set.

I slipped the coloring page inside the pencil case, held it up to the light, and traced the design onto the bag.

Once you have the main design drawn in, you can add your own lines and designs in the spaces.

You want the design to be somewhat intricate and full of pattern so there’s lots to color.

It’s a fun handmade gift idea and it pairs perfectly with both these gift sets.

You can wrap the boxes and pencil case together …

… or place the pens inside the coloring page pencil case and place it in a gift bag.  However you choose to wrap it, any little artist will enjoy receiving it this holiday season!  These items make great gifts for kids, tweens, and adults and they’re perfect for last minute gift giving!

    It looks like it would be a lot of fun. I love to doodle and draw and this is a great way to do that and still bring the colors with me.

    We’re totally Sharpie obsessed at our house! I’m going to have to pick up a few pencil bags to do this project with my twins! I bet they’d love it!

    This is such a fantastic idea. I have a bunch of markers I use for coloring. I will have to try tracing a pattern on with this trick.
