Closet Organization Ideas

My two younger girls share a room which means they also share a closet.  It’s a fairly large walk-in closet but it still tends to get a bit crowded and I’m always looking for closet organization ideas.  I’m about to do a big overhaul of their closet space and I thought I’d share some of the organizational items I found.  {All the links below will lead you to The Container Store but this is not a sponsored post … I just love that store!}

closet organization

1.  My girls have one blank wall in their closet and I plan to hang a peg rack or two.  It’ll provide a quick place to store their hoodies and light jackets.

2.  Skirts hung side by side in the closet take up a ton of room so skirt hangers make a lot of sense in a girls’ closet.  These hangers are the first space saving idea on my list.

3.  Until I saw this swivel hook, I hadn’t thought about hanging one in the closet but it’s another great space saver.  The girls can use it for scarves, hoodies, or other garments.

4.  Drawer organizers would help corral some of the mess inside the plastic drawers we have in the closet.  I like the idea of using them to separate unders, socks, and tights.

5.  A thin shoe cabinet would be perfect in their already-tight closet.  I love that it wouldn’t take up much room but would definitely take care of loose shoes.

6.  My girls are still young and it’s tough reaching the top closet rods.  They often drag in a chair from their desk but a folding closet stool would certainly be easier.

7.  Large canvas bins up on the high closet shelves would be perfect for holding sweaters and other things the girls don’t wear much.

8.  And I love hanging bags in the closet.  They’re perfect for holding sports equipment, belts, hats, and other small but essential items.

What are your favorite items for closet organization?
