This cheap and easy garage door makeover post contains affiliate links.

For the last few years, I’ve had serious garage door envy.  A pile of people in my old neighborhood had replaced their garage doors with fabulous updated versions.  Wooden doors or metal, some with windows and some without, and all with fabulous hardware that I loved.  Do you know what I’m talking about?  Do you have a little case of garage door envy too?  If so, keep reading because I have the most amazing way to get a cheap and easy garage door makeover for less than twenty dollars!

My new house has a perfectly functioning garage door, replaced in the last few years, so I have no plans to change it.  I had put aside my love of hardware but I found something that brought it all back!

Did you know you can buy magnetic garage door hardware?  I had no idea that such a thing existed and I was so excited when I found it!  And the price is crazy … most sets are under $20!  I quickly ordered a set of four hinges and two handles.

The pieces attach with magnets so installation {and I use that term really loosely} involves nothing more than placing them symmetrically on either side of the door.  It truly takes less than five minutes to have an updated garage door!  And since my garage door is a pretty prominent focal point on my home, I was excited to give it some updated curb appeal!

The black hardware ties in nicely with the lights on either side of the garage door and you would never suspect that these pieces aren’t permanently installed.

They’ve now endured rain, freezing temperatures, and high winds and they haven’t budged from their original spot!  I’d call that a total win!  And, if the trend changes in a year and I no longer want the hardware on my door, I can pop them off without any problem.  That ease makes them an ideal way to update a rental home, too!

Have you seen these hardware kits before?  Would you add faux hinges and handles to your garage door?

I LOVE this idea. I hate plain garage doors, which is what we have. We had talked about adding a panel of windows because our garage doesn’t have any, but this would be such a quicker, easier and cheaper update. Thanks for sharing.
