It’s the season of gift giving and I have a super cute {and super easy!} gift idea to share with you: a candle gift with washi tape covered matches.  This simple idea is perfect for a hostess gift or a sweet gift for a friend.

This gift idea was inspired by Amy Anderson’s new book, Washi Tape Crafts {affiliate link}.  I have to tell you, I just love this book!  It’s filled with 110 different ways to use washi tape … and every one of them is fabulous!  Honestly, I figured I had probably seen it all by now but I was wrong.  This fun book is filled with so many unique ideas that I got completely excited about washi tape all over again!

Washi Tape Crafts would make a great gift for the crafter on your list.  It even comes with ten rolls of custom-designed washi tape so, once inspired by the ideas in the book, you can tackle them right away.  Fun, right?

I read through every single project and then couldn’t wait to get crafting.

I had a hard time deciding which project to try first but I loved the matchbox favors and decided to make a similar version and use them for a gift.

I already had a stash of small candles and matchbooks and I raided my ribbon and washi tape stash to complete the supply list.  I love to give hostess gifts when I go to dinner or parties and pairing a delicious-smelling candle with a book of matches is perfect.

To cover the matchbook, simply open it up and lay strips of washi tape side by side across it.  Be sure not to cover the striking panel.  If the matchbook still shows through, you may want to add another layer of washi tape.

Use a craft knife to cut the washi tape along the matchbook edges.

Place the washi tape covered matches on top of a candle and tie it up with a festive ribbon.  In just minutes, you have a sweet gift that anyone will love.
