Painted Cabinet Makeover

I love being able to reuse old items in new ways and this painted cabinet makeover is the most recent furniture update in our house.  It’s the perfect little side table for Luke’s cowboy themed room.

painted cabinet makeover

Years and years ago, when I was single and living in an apartment in Houston, I bought this cabinet {imagine it with white knobs}.  It was one of the first pieces of furniture that I ever purchased … and back in the early 90’s, this sponge-painted sunflower clad cabinet was a real treasure {wink}.

For the last couple of years, the cabinet has been in our game room collecting dust. It had seen better days, was chipped and banged up, and was very outdated.

I debated donating it to Goodwill but decided, with a little painted makeover, it would make a cute and useful bedside table for Luke’s little room.

This past week, I sanded it down {the sponge paint had given it a surface that was really bumpy} and painted it light blue to match Luke’s bed.

To complete the makeover and tie it in with Luke’s cowboy room, I added some rustic metal cowboy knobs I bought in Canton.

This little painted cabinet is now a cute accent in Luke’s room and a great place to prop his lamp and store a few things in the drawer and cabinet.  And it didn’t cost a cent since I used paint I already had and knobs I had previously purchased that were just sitting in my stash.

I love getting a few more years of life out of a piece of furniture simply by updating with a bit of paint and hardware!

For another huge furniture makeover, be sure to check out this dining room table makeover that went from dark to light, giving it an entirely different style!

I remember that (the cabinet and the apt in Houston). You don’t see the sponge painting so much anymore, but it was totally IN back then. Looks so cute redone!
