Do you celebrate your dog’s birthday? I don’t think of myself as a crazy pet owner but I do love a good party and throwing a birthday party for dogs is right up my alley. I hosted a dog birthday party a few years ago for my pup and her little friend when they both turned one and I thought I’d share some fresh ideas for another simple party. Whether you’re celebrating the day you got your pup or the day he turned another year older, this party is easy to throw together and a few crafty details make it a party to remember … at least for the pet owner {wink}.
When I saw the adorable Milk-Bone® Happy Birthday Canister at Target during a recent shopping trip, I knew it would be ideal for a puppy party. With a few other treats and some items for your pup to wear, you’ve got all you need for a canine bash!
Made in the USA, the Milk-Bone® Happy Birthday Canister contains five delicious flavors: bacon, beef, chicken, sausage, and turkey and the treats are perfect for dogs of all sizes. They’re wholesome treats that come from the heart and they’re a great way to treat your pet!
The styling on the canister is perfect for a stand-in birthday cake …
… or a birthday gift for the pooch {since the canister will be available for only a limited time, and only at Target, I’m stocking up now and putting some away for dog gifts throughout the year} …
… and I couldn’t resist placing it on a cake plate and adding a paper candle.
To make the candle, I simply rolled up some colorful cardstock, hot glued the ends in place, and cut a flame shape from yellow cardstock. I attached the flame to one end of a thin piece of wire so it would stand up and glued the other end into the inside of the rolled candle. You can perch it on top of the canister or attach it with a drop of hot glue.
No party is complete without a garland or two so I used my cutting machine to create a good dog banner and hot glued it to a piece of baker’s twine. I also created simple yarn tassels and strung those on twine as well. Washi tape is an easy and removable way to attach garlands to the wall and I think the pop of color is cute.
The garlands look great behind the party table but you could also string a few more and create a really cute photo booth for party photos. Our guests were doing a whole lot of running and not a lot of sitting so I was glad I didn’t bother creating a photo booth for our party {smile} but I love the idea … and I’m sure some of you have dogs that are much better behaved than mine!
My dog loves treats and I don’t think she’s alone so I created goody bags for our party guests. I used small paper bags, attached paw prints cut from vinyl …
… and filled the bags with Pup-Peroni® dog treats and Milo’s Kitchen® homestyle dog treats.
Pup-Peroni is made in the USA and has mouth-watering beef in every bite. With more real beef and a mouth-watering aroma, it’s no wonder dogs can’t resist Pup-Peroni dog treats!
Milo’s Kitchen homestyle dog treats are also made in the USA, contain no artificial flavors or colors, and contain 100% real chicken as the #1 ingredient.
If the begging dogs were any indication, the treat bags were definitely a hit at the party!
If you’re going to host a party for your dog then cute photos are a must. I found an adorable party hat and kerchief at Target but small party hats work equally well if your Target doesn’t carry this line. I personalized the party hat with iron-on heat transfer because I can never resist a touch of cute.
A birthday party for dogs doesn’t have to be elaborate or difficult and it’s a fun way to create some memories with your furry friend!
Stock up and be sure to let me know how you celebrate your pet’s special days!
