Food Pranks for April Fool’s Day

I love to pull little pranks on the kids for April Fool’s Day. Among other things, I’ve frozen their milk and cereal, stuffed newspaper into the toes of their shoes, and served phony grilled cheese sandwiches. The kids have come to expect my pranks and aren’t always fooled but I know they’d be disappointed if I didn’t plan something.  This year food pranks were the big idea!

This morning I had an egg-straordinary breakfast prepared when the kids got up: large ostrich eggs to fill up those stomachs and get the day off to a nutritious start. They didn’t fall for it but enjoyed the peach halves and whipped cream.  They were delighted to have a slightly sweet start to the day!

A mid-morning snack piqued their curiosity. Homemade french fries with ketchup? They were suspicious but took a bite to discover these were actually fake fries.  I made them out of refrigerated breadsticks and coated them with sugar then added a side of jelly instead of ketchup.

Even though the kids didn’t fall for the food pranks, it was fun to surprise them with a couple of tricks and it created some fun memories!

Have you pulled any pranks today?

Oh ya, but my boy hasn’t noticed his blue toe nails yet because he put his socks on in the dark. They liked their alarm clocks on full blast under the bed too. I like the food ones you did. We woke up to “pee” all over the seat and floor (yellow water) and frozen toothbrushes. They are their own little pranksters.

I am a member of the Richmond Craft Mafia and I told them I had some news. I went on and one with a big long story about how I was pregnant with triplets. Three of them actually believed me!

    It was a blast!
