This DIY turtle dog costume post written by me on behalf of Albertsons Safeway. The opinions and text are all mine.  This post contains affiliate links.

Do you dress your pets up for Halloween?  I don’t always but I’ll be honest: there’s just something super cute about a sweet little pup getting all dressed up in a funny costume.  This simple DIY turtle costume couldn’t be easier and it’ll bring a smile to the face of your fellow trick or treaters.  And you know what?  Dressing your pet up for Halloween could help you help a local animal shelter or rescue {keep reading for details}.

To make this simple turtle costume, buy a cheap plastic bowl in a size that will fit on your pet’s back.  Spray paint it green.  I used a fun, bright green but dark would look great as well.

When the paint has dried completely, use a Cricut machine to cut large green hexagons from green vinyl and stick them all over the bowl to mimic the pattern on a turtle shell.

Using hot glue, attach a long piece of ribbon to the inside of each side of the bowl …

… and glue pieces of velcro to the ends of the ribbon.  Be sure the length of the ribbon is the proper length so the velcro joins together right under your pet’s chest or belly.  If you’d prefer, instead of ribbon, glue a piece of wide elastic to each side of the bowl, making sure it fits snugly enough to hold the bowl tightly on the dog’s back without hurting the pet.

With just a few supplies and only a few minutes plus drying time, your pet can have a cute turtle costume to wear on Halloween!
