Kids’ Christmas Tree Idea

So many parts of the Christmas decor is hands-off for kids, especially younger kids, so I thought it might be fun to let my kiddos have their own little tree, decorated the way they want, in the playroom.  This silly string kids’ Christmas tree idea is simple, inexpensive, and so fun for the kids!

I bought a small and really cheap Christmas tree at a local big box discount store and set it up in the upstairs playroom.

The tree was pre-lit but we didn’t buy any other decorations for it.  Instead, I let them go to to town, decorating it with puzzle pieces and small toys they gathered up in the playroom.

They tucked a doll blanket under the tree as a tree skirt …

… and, once the tree was decorated with toy ornaments, they used a few cans of silly string to add their own kid-friendly garland to the tree.

The kids had so much fun spraying silly string all over their little tree and it looked pretty cute.

They can change it up throughout the holiday season, adding or removing toys as they want.  Like our stuffed nativity, this is a hands-on, kid-friendly Christmas idea.

This idea was a score.  It may not look amazing but the kids created fun memories and made a very kid-friendly Christmas tree that was a cute addition to their play space.

One thing to note if you try this idea: as the silly string dries, it will get a bit darker and shrink up a little so the overall appearance will change somewhat.

And if you’re worried about clean-up, don’t stress too much.  The silly string is quite easy to pull off when the holiday season is over.

Very cute! We have one upstairs outside their rooms. I made them put all the “kid made” ornaments on it. They love having their own tree and I’m sure yours do too!

I always let my kids put up a small tree in their own rooms so they can hang all the “back of the tree type ornaments” so my tree doesn’t have to be so cluttered, but I don’t tell them that’s why 🙂
