A Magnetic Pin Dish

I have a super simple and super practical DIY project for you today: a magnetic pin dish.

This is an idea from the Martha Stewart archives and it’s a favorite of mine.  I don’t mind pincushions but it’s so much easier to reach into a dish to grab some pins … and even better if the pins are attached magnetically to the dish.

To make a magnetic pin dish, you’ll need a small shallow dish and a good magnet.  I used a strong bar magnet but most magnets will work well.  I bought the small dish at Goodwill for a mere fifty-nine cents.

Using E6000 or a similar adhesive, glue the magnet to the bottom of the dish and let it dry completely.

Your pins will stay attached to the dish until you reach in to grab one.  Convenient and cute all in one.

Do you use a pincushion or a dish for your pins?

I so need this…. I have needles all over my floor. I just stabbed my toe yesterday with one. I have a bad habit of just throwing them on the table next to my sewing machine… maybe I could actually make it in the bowl, lol! Pinning : )

Wonderful idea! I often use a small glass bowl, but I love the idea of having a magnetic bowl instead. The pins are less likely to bounce out.

This is such a great idea. I’m definitely pinning (no pun intended)! My pins are all over the place and when they’re in the pincushion they get all tangled with thread… def like a bowl! Genius idea 🙂
