A Knit Candy Corn Hat

Maybe if I knit for fall, it will come sooner.  I’m so ready for hot apple cider, trips to the pumpkin patch, and falling leaves.  I just finished making a knit candy corn hat and I wanted to share how easy it was to make.  Wouldn’t this be adorable for pumpkin patch photos?

knit candy corn hat

To make this knit candy corn hat, I used a simple baby hat pattern from Itty-Bitty Hats {one of my favorite knitting books} and modified it with just a few simple steps to make it look like a piece of candy corn.  If you don’t have a knitting pattern for a standard baby hat, you can easily find a free one on pinterest or on the ravelry website.

I love the top knot on this hat but even without it, the hat would be super cute!

To give a regular knit hat the look of candy corn, simply use three colors of yarn {white, orange, and yellow}, beginning with yellow and ending with white, striping the hat with large, wide stripes.

I created this hat with a rolled hem so I just cast on without creating any type of rib but if you prefer a more formal look, you can always add a few rows of ribbing when you first start knitting.

This little hat is so quick and easy to make {you can whip it up in just a couple of hours} but it would be the perfect accessory for the fall season and an adorable prop for pumpkin patch photos!  If you knit one, be sure to share a photo on the Dukes and Duchesses facebook page!
