A Canada Day Drink

Happy Canada Day to all my northern neighbors!  Since I’m Canadian {I was born there and lived there until I graduated from university}, I like to at least mention Canada Day in this house full of Americans {wink}.  This year we’re celebrating the big day with a simple red and white layered Canada Day drink that requires no special mixing or ingredients.  In fact, you may already have everything you need sitting in your pantry!

The kids were wowed by the way this drink stayed in layers and the wow factor always makes a treat more fun.  I love having a little something special to make days more memorable!  Celebrating doesn’t have to be time consuming or hard!

To make this red and white drink, I simply layered red Kool-Aid with Diet Sprite {the drink with the most sugar goes on the bottom when you’re making a colorful layered drink because the dense, heavy sugar concentration will make it sink}.

I love the layered drink idea.  Wouldn’t this be cute at a birthday party, using the theme colors?  Or for any holiday or special occasion, really.  Just layer the colors you want, making sure they all have different sugar concentrations!

I’d love to hear about your special Canada Day celebrations!  How do you celebrate this holiday?  Do you have any special traditions?

I didn’t know you were Canadian! Me too! It’s so exciting when you find a fellow Canuck, because like you said, it usually is a room full of Americans! 🙂 What part of Canada are you in?

Sarah, I was born in Fernie, BC, but grew up in Alberta {mostly Calgary, with short stints in Edson and Edmonton} … I left when I graduated from university and have been in the States since.

Randi, thanks for coming over to Quirky Vistas and commenting on my Serving Under the Banner of Freedom post. So sweet of you! I’m glad you did, because that’s how I found you. This drink is such a great idea. I’m sure the kids do love it. I bet it tastes great too. Sugar is always a kid pleaser. It always pleases me and I’m only a kid at heart these days.

I love these layered drinks. I’ve never tired one, but I need to do that.

Does it have to be diet pop(soda)?

You just have to make sure you have two different sugar concentrations … the one with the lightest sugar content will sit on top of the other one with a higher sugar content. It’s key for the layering.
