A Game Dresser with Chalkboard Drawers {DecoArt Chalkboard Coating}

I’m so excited to share this fun and colorful game dresser with you!  Thanks to DecoArt Clear Chalkboard Coating, the drawers all have chalkboard surfaces so they can be written on.  It’s the perfect solution for the game and puzzle storage in our gameroom.

DecoArt Clear Chalkboard Coating, game dresser

I started with this {free} dresser that came out of a friend’s garage.  I put the call out on facebook for a free or super cheap dresser and had this one promised to me within the hour.  Gotta love social media!

Our gameroom has a lot of fun colors but the main color is blue with pops of green and orange.  It’s such a fun and vivid color combination, especially for an area of the home that caters to the kiddos.

I painted the dresser in those colors: blue for the main body, green for the drawer fronts, and bright orange for the knobs.

After a couple of coats of paint and plenty of drying time, I painted the drawer fronts with two coats of DecoArt Chalkboard Coating.  You may remember the washi tape chalkboard I made with this product … I’m such a huge fan!  It can turn any surface into a chalkboard.  To me, it’s truly one of the greatest craft products I’ve used!

I let the Chalkboard Coating dry for 24 hours and then seasoned the drawers by coloring over them with chalk and erasing it.  I moved the dresser into our gameroom …

… filled the drawers with games and puzzles …

… and started labeling.

The chalk wipes off easily with no trace of the writing and the drawers look and feel like they’ve been painted with regular paint, not chalkboard paint.  Isn’t that a fun way to label the drawers?

Once we get used to the new storage system, I may label the drawers with the actual names of the games in each drawer.  That might make it easier for my little ones to find what they’re looking for.

I’m so thrilled with the way this project turned out: a free dresser transformed into the perfect storage system for our games.

Have you tried DecoArt Clear Chalkboard Coating?  I’d love to hear what you used it for … or what you’d like to use it for.

DecoArt provided the Clear Chalkboard Coating used in this project as well as further compensation.  All opinions about this product are my own … it’s one of my favorites!
