One of my favorite things to do is to pilfer through the goods at a junk sale or market. I love the rusty treasures and the old furniture coated in layers of chipped paint. And I’m always drawn to old faucet handles but until recently I had no idea what to do with them. When I found a whole box of blue toned handles at a sale recently, I knew they’d make unique upcycled faucet handle cabinet knobs for my kids’ bathroom! And I was right … they’re perfect and add a bit of character to a very white room.
Behind the door in the bathroom is a large linen cupboard. It houses all of our extra sheets and towels along with first aid supplies, sunscreen, dog brushes, and all those other random things that tend to get stashed in the linen closet. The space is awesome but also super plain. I’m not opposed to silver knobs but they don’t suit the colorful, eclectic style that I love.
When I found these knobs, I felt like I’d struck gold. At about a dollar a piece, they couldn’t have been better. They were just the right size and just the right tones. Since the bathroom has a few different shades of blue, I decided to use a couple of different shades for the knobs as well.
This area is nearly impossible to photograph well because it’s behind the door of a windowless bathroom which means I can get zero natural light in there so excuse these far-from-perfect photos. Just imagine it looks a whole lot better in real life {wink}.
I removed the existing knobs then used the same screws to attach the faucet handles.
The size of the faucet handles was just right, sitting in the corner of the cabinet without overlapping the edges.
Since they’re quite a bit larger than the original knobs, I wasn’t sure how they’d fit in the space and I was hoping I wouldn’t have to drill new holes in the cabinets.
The bright blue pops so nicely against the cream colored cabinet doors and really adds a fun pop of character to the room.
And they tie in really well with the other blues that are in the room.
These upcycled faucet handle cabinet knobs are one of those super simple DIY jobs {minus the stripped screw that added twenty minutes on to what should have been a quick fix} that ended exactly as I had hoped … and I think I love it more than I even thought I would.
What fun pops of eclectic character have you added to your home?
