Travel Snack Packs

This year our family vacation is taking us on a combined trip to Disney Parks and the beach and I have to share a great idea that a friend gave me: travel snack packs.  If you’re planning any summer trips to the amusement park, long outings, or a big trip like Disney, these snack packs are a great idea!

As a mom of five, I often end up carrying a backpack loaded down with water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, and anything else we might need for a day out.  By the end of the day, my back is usually aching and I’m tired of zipping and unzipping the bag all day long.  And since we’re past the stroller stage, I don’t have any place to dump all those extras.

The travel snack pack is a great way to divide the load.  Upon the advice of a friend, I bought fanny packs for my three younger kids {the older ones are too cool for fanny packs and don’t mind carrying a light backpack with their things}.  I found these fanny packs for $5 each at Walmart.

I used patterned heat transfer and my cutting machine to create monograms …

… then ironed them on to each fanny pack {you could also use an iron-on initial from the craft store}.  Since the fanny packs are all the same color, I wanted the kids to have an easy way to recognize their own pack each day.

We adjusted the straps to fit the waist of each child and we’ll fill the packs with snacks and a bottle of water at the beginning of each day.  The packs are also roomy enough to hold a pair of sunglasses and a folded hat.  Throughout the day, the kids can get their water whenever they need it and help themselves to snacks when they’re hungry.

And since the packs fit around their waists, the kids are hands free all day and we don’t have to worry about anyone leaving a bag behind.  Travel snack packs are a great solution for all-day outings, especially for big families!
