I love the increased activity, the playdates and parties, and all the festivities that come with the summer months in our big family!  It’s one of the best times of the year in our house but because of all the parties and activities, it can also be a time of sickness and injuries.  If the same holds true in your house, let me tell you where we go for injuries and after-hour illnesses and how a fun tough cookie get well basket for kids can take the sting out of all of it!

With five kids in our family, we’ve seen our fair share of illnesses and injuries.  I love our family doctor and nurse practitioner, but there are things that can’t be done in their office and, let’s face it, it isn’t always possible to get an appointment right when you need it.

CareNow Urgent Care centers have become our go-to facility for sudden injuries and after-hour illnesses.  We’re lucky to have the convenience of having a center close by our house.  That added to the fact that we can put our name on the waiting list via Web Check-In and wait at home until we’re called makes a visit to CareNow so much easier and more appealing.  No one wants to wait for long in a waiting room with their sick kiddo {and someone else’s!} or with a child who is dealing with an injury.  CareNow is dedicated to reducing your wait while improving your health.

CareNow offers quality medical care and can perform x-rays and lab tests, diagnose and treat illnesses, administer immunizations, and even perform school sports physicals.

We recently visited CareNow after my oldest daughter had a run-in with a hotel chair during our vacation and we thought she might have broken her toe or foot.  We put her name on the waiting list through Web Check-In, got a call that her turn had come, and went in to CareNow where she had her foot examined and x-rayed.  {We’ve had a lot of fractures in this house but this time we got lucky and the foot was just bruised.}  We loved the convenience of having everything done in one location at a time that worked with our schedules.

When a couple of my kiddos had accidents {stitches and fractures}, a dear family friend delivered care packages to them and they still talk about them to this day.  It’s the little things that often make a really sweet impact.

If you know someone who’s dealing with a tough break, or you want to help your own child through a hard time, make a tough cookie get well basket!

Open up an envelope and use a large circular craft punch to create a hole near the bottom and use your printer {or your cutting machine, like I did} to print the tough cookie message on a piece of colorful cardstock.  Glue the envelope back together, glue the message on the front, and slide a large cookie into the envelope.

Then, gather up treats and goodies that will help entertain the child while they’re recuperating.

Some of my favorites include: freezable treats, stickers, a sketch book, crayons, a bouncy ball, sidewalk chalk, tissues, watercolor paints, books, and magazines.  You can even add some candy and drinks, if you want.

Place the items in a cute basket {I love a sand pail or another type of basket that can be reused}, add the cookie gift tag, and deliver this fun gift basket to a child that needs a little perking up!
