The Potty Party

Disclaimer: this post may contain far more information than you ever wanted about the potty habits of a certain set of twins.

Luke and Lila are two and a half and we’re more than ready for them to be potty trained. They’ve been dabbling at it for months with no real commitment. They’ll pee in the potty on command but poop in their pants, and I found myself getting so tired of the wishy-washiness of the process. We’ve been telling them for months that if they can poop in the potty five times (at which point we think a habit will have been formed) then we’ll get them each a video they’ve been wanting. That still wasn’t motivating them like I wanted. At the beginning of last week, Phil told the Twinkies that if they got potty trained they’d get a potty party. Luke stopped, looked at Phil, and said, “cupcakes? balloons?”. Once confirmed, the potty commitment began. Luke and Lila both became almost instantly potty trained. They’ve been wearing unders all week and have done so well. Luke has had a few accidents but Lila has had only one. We’re finally there!

Today was the big event: the first ever Dukes Potty Party! Balloons (tied to rolls of toilet paper), cupcakes (decorated with stickers of underpants and encouraging words … in the cutest Martha wrappers, of course), and a video for each. The twins are growing up!

I’ve started truncating my posts … please pop over to my blog to read the rest!

CRACKING UP!!! Love the cupcakes! Whatever works, right? Especially when it comes to poop. *groan* I still haven’t recovered from Nathan’s refusal to poop in the potty, but the pain was so worth the result.

    Congratulations L&L!

Those cupcakes are great. Love throwing a milestone party and what better one to throw than one to celebrate no more wiping of butts. 🙂
