Homemade Teething Biscuits

Now that Tate has two little teeth, I decided she needed something to bite on. I’m not a big fan of store-bought teething biscuits because they get so gummy and make such a mess. This recipe for homemade teething biscuits is perfect. They’re healthy, easy for little ones to grasp and hang on to, and almost mess-free. Tate gave them the taste test and loved them.

Teething Biscuits

1 1/2 cups unbleached flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup maple syrup
3 tablespoons applesauce

Heat oven to 300. Place all ingredients in a medium bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until dough begins to hold together. Dust counter with flour, then transfer contents of bowl to counter. Knead lightly until the dough is smooth, about 3 minutes. {If the dough is difficult to handle, dust with a little more flour.} Roll out with a rolling pin until 1/3 inch thick {I cut them 1/4 inch thick to ensure that pieces wouldn’t break off when Tate gummed them}. Cut out biscuits {I used a round cookie cutter and a soda-bottle cap for the center}. Transfer biscuits to a greased cookie sheet. Bake until barely browned, about 35 minutes. Let cool completely on cookie sheet. They’re ready to eat now {under supervision, of course}. They’ll harden slightly more if you leave them out overnight. Store for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.

This recipe is so simple and I love that they contain only a few ingredients.

Randi…you truly are becoming American if you used the term “soda bottle cap” instead of “pop bottle cap!”

    Great idea…glad Tate enjoyed them!

Great idea and it looks like half the sugar as the store bought biscuits.
