First Christmas Ornament Idea

This first Christmas ornament idea post contains affiliate links.

This year, I’m the coordinator of the baby room at our local homeschool co-op program.  As a little surprise gift for the parents with little ones in that room, we created these simple ornaments, personalized with each baby’s face.  This idea can easily be customized for a first Christmas ornament idea for your baby too!

To make these first Christmas ornaments, I took photos of all the kids {this photo is of my own Tate} and had them printed in black and white.  You could do color, too … it would be equally cute.  Print them in a small wallet size or use a paper trimmer to cut them to a size that will fit in the ornament.

I carefully coiled the photos just enough to be able to slide them into flat, glass Christmas ornaments.  Be careful not to fold the photo as you’re sliding it in because you want the photo to easily come uncoiled once it’s inside.  If you need to, use a wooden skewer to straighten the corners of the photo out inside the ornament.

I sprinkled in a few super tiny jingle bells {because they’re so stinkin’ cute and add a fun and whimsical Christmas element} …

… and used a metal stamping set to stamp a metal washer with the year.

I used a little piece of ripped homespun fabric to tie the washer on to the top of the ornament …

… and within a few minutes, I had a cute little ornament to remember the first holiday season. I love anything with my baby’s face on it and I’m hoping the other parents will feel the same!

I LOVE this idea! How do you stamp a washer? I have never seen a flat ornament, I may have to go search those out.

Love it! I’ve done those in a slightly different way. Print the photo onto transparency, cut it into a circle and pop it into a regular clear ball ornament. I absolutely love the stamped washers that you did with it – how did you stamp them?
