A Silver and Gold Sweet Sixteen Party

This weekend, we celebrated my oldest daughter’s sixteenth birthday with a silver and gold sweet sixteen party!  We decorated with black, silver, and gold, added some DIY touches, and invited a pile of friends for a fun and memorable night!a silver and gold sweet sixteen party

We added silver and gold and glitter to everything we could.  The food table was decked out in a black cloth covered in gold tulle and sprinkled with metallic confetti {simple circles punched from glittery gold and silver scrapbook paper}.

The girls ate off square gold plates {paper, of course} and I added houndstooth napkins for a bit of bold pattern on the table.

We served the food in clear plastic dollar store bowls that I painted with gold and silver brushstrokes …

… and made a backdrop across the food table with uneven gold brushstroked balloons {inspired by these painted balloons}.

I attempted a naked cake and ended up with a very real life, somewhat naked, somewhat crooked cake.  Regardless, I topped the cake with lots of white frosting and edible gold stars {affiliate link} and added DIY glitter candles.

I served food that matched the color scheme: metallic macarons, white and black oreos, white cheese, hummus … anything that blended in with the black, white, and metallics.

I glittered up bottles of Italian soda {in the same way I made the glitter bottle for Valentine’s Day} …

… and added large silver glitter letters to mark cups.

Kennedy wanted a message board that could serve as a keepsake so I bought a large canvas K {found at the craft store}, added gold brushstrokes to the sides, then set it out with metallic sharpies.  The girls all wrote messages on it and it turned out even better than I had envisioned.

We set up a photo booth {a large white sheet tacked to the wall}, bought a few props and printed out others, and took photos of all the girls.  Kennedy will use the photos as thank you notes.

As the girls left at the end of the night, they grabbed a silver polka dot favor bag and a glittered clip …

It was such a simple party but a few fun touches made it feel really special and festive.  And who can resist a little glitter?

Different, not sure going through all that work to do the gold and silver vs just purchasing gold and silver would have been easier.

How did the teen’s like it?

For me, the fun is in the DIY so we loved all the personal details. The teens loved it too!

Oh this is too cute!! I can’t even imagine my kids turning 16. Does it really have to happen? I vote they stay little (but obedient) forever… but I suppose neither of those will happen, lol! ; ) She’s lucky to have such a fantastic party!
