Repurposed Globe Cloche

Summer entertaining is the best but this year we’ve had so much rain that the mosquitoes and flies are awful.  When eating outside, food has to be covered to keep the nasty bugs away and I came up with a fun solution: a repurposed globe cloche.  I love the way it turned out and can’t wait to use it all summer long.  Won’t it be fun at a pool party?

repurposed globe cloche

To make it, I upcycled an old broken globe found at a friend’s garage sale {that I’ve been storing in my garage for over a year}.

I took the tape off the equator {smile} …

… then used a craft knife to cut around the middle seam.  Once I had cut through the glue, I gently used a screwdriver to wedge the halves of the globe apart.

Since the globe already had a hole in the top, I didn’t have to create a hole for the drawer pull but if your globe doesn’t have a hole, use a drill or an awl to create one.

I used a drawer pull to create the handle for the cloche, matching the color to the bright colors in the globe.

I simply placed the pull through the hole and used the accompanying hardware to attach it from the inside.

A drawer pull is just the right size and makes a perfect handle for the cloche.

The bright colors on the globe are so fun for summer and this repurposed globe cloche will be perfect for outdoor barbecues and summer pool parties.

And wouldn’t it be perfect for a travel-themed party?

Amazing! I never cease to be amazed at all of the creative ideas flowing around. I guess I need to go take another look through the boxes of stuff I have in storage and start getting a little more creative! I have pinned this to my Crafty board and will share it over at G+ and on FB! Hugs! Chloe
