Repurposed DIY Bed Tray

This repurposed DIY bed tray project is part of a sponsored post for eve mattress.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Our master bedroom has long been a neglected room in our house but I’ve decided to give it a bit more attention lately and turn it into a restful retreat.  I started by ditching the old, extremely worn mattress, replacing it with an eve mattress, and turning the bed into a stylish, comfortable spot!  A simple repurposed DIY bed tray was the perfect touch for lazy mornings spent in bed with a cup of coffee.  Is it too much to hope that I get a morning like that before I’m a hundred {wink}?

To make this repurposed DIY bed tray, I used an old cabinet door and a spindle from an old headboard.  I love taking old items and upcycling them into something practical and new!

I cut the spindle into four equal sections and left all holes and blemishes as is.  I think screw holes and knicks in the wood add to the character of the project.

Using gorilla glue, I attached the short legs to the bottom corners of the cabinet door.

Once the glue was dry, I spray painted the tray in Rustoleum’s satin heirloom white, leaving some of the crevices unpainted for a shabby, distressed look.

I can’t wait to put this new bed tray to use on the next lazy Saturday morning.  Especially because a lazy Saturday means extra time resting and sleeping on my new eve mattress!  The eve mattress website says “every great day starts the night before” and I couldn’t agree more.  I’ve been sleeping miserably on our old mattress, listening to squeaks every time I move, and waking up with sore muscles and a stiff back.

Not anymore!  I’ve been sleeping so soundly and comfortably on our new eve mattress.  Originally from the UK, eve mattresses are now available in the US.  The mattress was delivered in a box right to my doorstep, making it super easy to set up.  No more driving home with a mattress tied to the top of a car {yep, I’ve done that}!  Once out of the box and unwrapped, the mattress expands to its full size within a few hours.  I have to say, I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t expand evenly but there was nothing to fear: the mattress expanded perfectly, completely, and evenly.

I also topped our bed with a new memory foam pillow {which arrived in this awesome packaging} …

… and the memory foam pillow and mattress have been giving me a great sleep ever since.  With no squeaking springs and firm support, this new mattress is my favorite.  I’ve been going to bed about thirty minutes earlier than normal every night because I’m so pumped about the comfort of our bed.

The only downfall?  The kids are constantly climbing in the bed too!

I’ve never loved our master bedroom but it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots and I’m excited about continuing the update in the months ahead.  I’ll be sure to share photos here as it progresses.  In the meantime, grab your own eve mattress on amazon {affiliate link} and enjoy refreshing nights of sleep!  If you need me, I’ll be napping in this sweet spot.

I love how simple this DIY is! I never would have thought to cut down a spindle to create the legs on this piece. So, so clever!

I love your little bed tray! Nice color, and looks pretty simple to make. Makes me want to take a trip the habitat for humanity to get a cabinet door and make me one. Not that I would ever get to use it, lol.
