My Christmas Home Tour

Don’t you love taking a peek inside other people’s houses?  I particularly love seeing how people decorate for the holidays so I thought it was only fair that I let you have a little peek at my home clad in its Christmas decor.  You got a sneak peek at my family room yesterday but let’s take a little stroll through the rooms and I’ll show you some of my favorite touches.

My painted bundt pan wreath is back on my front door in all its glossy goodness.  I still love it.  It’s such a simple but fun repurposed touch.

A garland made of ornaments and bells acts as a table runner on my dining room table {I simply bunched piles of ornaments along a piece of wire and coiled the ends to create this garland}.  I placed votives along the sides to create some ambiance at night.  The candlelight looks so pretty when it reflects off the ornaments.

I mixed a lot of different colors and metallics in my decor this year and although it might seem like an eclectic mix to some, I love it.  It may not be magazine worthy but it suits my personality completely.  This vignette is a perfect example: vintage cherubs mixed with gold bells mixed with vintage scrabble letters mixed with glittery ornaments.  And paperwhites are in full bloom right next to all that metallic and glittery goodness.

An old Coke crate holds the Christmas crackers that will be used at Christmas dinner {a favorite tradition we’ve had since my childhood} …

… and a crystal dish holds vintage Christmas bulbs, some found at a junk sale and some passed down from my Grandpa’s collection.

Felt Christmas trees {bought on clearance at Target after Christmas a couple of years ago} are strung on twine and hung over a mirror {with strips of washi tape, of course}.

My kitchen doesn’t have a lot of Christmas decor but a basket of Christmas mugs sits next to my coffee pot and a tiered basket of Santa mugs sits on my kitchen island.  I love my Santa mugs and always keep my eyes peeled at thrift stores this time of year.

Our Christmas tree, wrapped in jute webbing and covered in homemade ornaments, casts a soft glow on our family room and makes me smile.  I may never have the perfect department store Christmas tree but our tree is full of memories {I still get teary-eyed every year when I see an ornament Eli made when he was three years old}.  The dog ate our tree skirt last year so this year a blanket is bunched under the tree.  It has cross-stitched snowflakes on one side and red gingham on the other and was a gift I made for my Nan at least fifteen years ago.  She’s now very elderly, suffers from dementia, and lives in a nursing home so the blanket has been returned to me.  It’s filled with sentimental value.

I changed my mantel completely this year.  Rather than going with a rustic look, I hung a glittery garland and added lots of silver.

I spray painted dollar store nutcrackers and little village pieces and tucked them in with candles …

… piles of silver ornaments, a winter wreath, and a large vintage tray {an amazing hand-me-down from a sweet friend}.

I love this mantel in the daytime but I especially love it at night when the candles and the fireplace are lit.

Our house has other holiday touches but those are some of my favorites.  I’d love to hear: what are your favorite holiday touches this year?
