Hollywood Movie Premiere Party Idea

This year, Kennedy celebrated her eleventh birthday with a Hollywood movie premiere party.  We had such a great time planning this party and adding some fun creative details … and the girls loved being celebrities for a night!  If you’re looking for a fun party theme for a tween, this is easy to pull off and you can add all kinds of creative elements to customize and personalize the idea.

We mailed the guests tickets to the red carpet event a few weeks ago {simple tickets made with glittery cardstock and stickers} …

… and the girls arrived for the party, decked out in boas and sunglasses {it would also be really fun to have the girls get completely decked out in thrift store gowns as though they were truly heading to a red carpet event}.

A sign told the celebs where to park and they walked up the red carpet toward the V.I.P. Entrance while Elijah the paparazzi jumped out from the bushes and snapped photos.  It was a really fun way to greet guests and get everyone in the mood and having someone play the part of the paparazzi really added some fun!  {If you aren’t able to find a red carpet for your event, a red tablecloth can be laid out for guests to walk on.}

We decorated the table with some movie paraphernalia: a movie clapboard, a boa, silver stars {these can be cut with a stencil, a paper punch, or a cutting machine}, and film.  I’ve since seen old film reels and canisters at thrift stores and junk sales and those would also be a great way to decorate for the party.

The girls ate pizza and then hit the concession stand where soda, fruit and a chocolate fountain, and hordes of popcorn {from a real theater-style popcorn machine} were waiting. The popcorn was served with a variety of toppings so the girls could customize with their favorite seasonings.

When stomachs were full, the girls sat under the “Now Showing” sign to watch a movie {a simple piece of poster board with large letters surrounded by white Christmas lights}.

Like all good celebrities, the girls hammed it up for some photos.

Everyone saved a bit of room for cake. The cake idea came from an old Martha article: two square cakes mimicking the Hollywood Walk of Fame with Kennedy’s sugar cookie handprint on top and a licorice camera.  I’m not a great cake maker but the girls didn’t expect perfection, thank goodness.  If homemade isn’t your style, you can find a fun storebought cake that will suit your theme.

Popcorn boxes filled with movie-watching goodies went home with the girls at the end of the night.

This Hollywood movie premiere party was such a fun way to celebrate Kennedy’s birthday and we created a lot of great memories.
