Installing a New Bathroom Faucet #MoenDIYer

This post brought to you by Moen, Incorporated. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m always a bit intimidated by anything having to do with plumbing {besides changing the washers in the leaky faucets} but this week I replaced a bathroom faucet without any help … and it looks fabulous!

installing a new bathroom faucet

I installed the Moen Boardwalk Centerset bathroom faucet in Chrome, a classic looking faucet with art-deco styling.  I really like the strong lines and knew it would look great in our downstairs bathroom.

I gathered the tools I needed for the job {a wrench, plumber’s putty, pliers, and a towel to catch drips} and turned off the water using the valves under the sink.  Prior to replacing the faucet my Dad and I replaced the old valves and hoses under the sink so I knew the valves would work well.  If your valves are old or leaky, you can also turn the water off at the main source.

I removed the old faucet and the drain assembly …

… then scrubbed the area in preparation for the new faucet.

I placed the gasket and faucet in place and attached and tightened the mounting nuts under the sink …

… then set the waste seat and hooked up the drainage assembly according to the instructions that came with my faucet.

One bit of advice at this stage: be generous with the plumber’s putty or sealant that you place under the waste seat.  I had to go back and add more in order to prevent some dripping.

Once everything was in place, I tightened all the joints, set the pop-up drain to function, and hooked the supply hoses back up.

I turned the water back on and tested the faucet … success!  The new faucet worked perfectly!

It took me less than two hours to remove the old faucet and install the new one and that included a pile of time I spent messing around with getting the pop-up drain just right.  Overall, it was quite a simple task and not nearly as daunting as I thought it might be.

My new faucet looks so great in the bathroom and I’m thrilled that I have a new skill to add to my DIY repertoire.
