How to Organize Hair Accessories

Do you have trouble knowing how to organize hair accessories?  All those hair bands and hair clips and bows?  It’s always a struggle in our house because with three girls, we have a lot of bands and clips.  More often than not, they’re laying all over the floor which makes my type A personality go a little nuts.  I finally came up with a cute way for my girls to organize and store their hair accessories and it’s a method that they can easily keep up with!

A while ago I bought this little metal storage unit on clearance at Hobby Lobby.  I had been using it to store jewelry craft supplies when it hit me that it would be perfect for organizing the girls’ hair accessories.

This is a very specific item but you can find similar drawer sets at craft stores and IKEA.

I needed this unit to fit on a thin wall in the girls’ bathroom so I turned all the drawers around so that it could hang vertically.

I cut small pieces of scrapbook paper in different colors {the basic colors of the hair clips and hair bands} and slid them into the label slots on the fronts of the drawers. 

If the drawers you’re using don’t have label slots, you can buy card catalog labels {affiliate link} and affix them to the fronts of the drawers or simply use colored stickers on the front.

Color coding the drawers will make organizing really simple, especially for younger children.  {Since I don’t have drawers for every color, certain colors will go together … pink and purple, black and white.}

I hung the drawers on a wall in the girls’ bathroom and now I’ll cross my fingers and hope for organizational success!  The girls loved the new system so we’re off to a great start.
