We’re busy planning for a sweet sixteen party this weekend and everything that moves is getting glittered and spray painted in metallic tones!  Even the food is going to coordinate with our color scheme so regular macarons got a makeover … and they look so good!  Thinking of going glam with your macarons?  Let me tell you how to make metallic macarons!

I know you can make or bake your own macarons but that just seemed a bit over the top for me so I bought a couple of packages of macarons at Trader Joe’s {they’re in the freezer section in case you can’t find them at first look} and two cans of gold and silver cake graffiti {edible spray paint} at Michaels.

I laid the macarons out on a piece of wax paper …

… and sprayed the tops with the cake graffiti the same way I would spray paint a piece of wood.  I applied a few coats, letting them dry in between, until I had full coverage.

I opted to spray only one side so the girls will be able to look at the sides and the bottom to figure out what flavor they’re eating.

Once the cookies were completely dry, I placed them in an airtight container until party time.

… and I’m tempted to spray a little more party food for Saturday night!

Have you ever used edible spray paint or edible glitter to decorate food?
